[ It's early in the morning. And Toph Beifong is late for Luceti School! She woke up late because it was too freaking cold and the blankets were so warm. And when she finally got out of bed, the floor felt like ice to her bare feet and she couldn't get around properly. She pulled on some socks, but that just messed with her "sight" and, one thing led to another... ]

[ That's why, at some point in the morning, there is a little girl earthbending her way across the village and to school, complete with a half-eaten piece of toast hanging from her mouth. Now and then she calls back behind her - ]

Hey! I'll fix it later!

[ Because, well, she's kind of leaving a mess, tearing her way through the earth like that. ]

[ She's true to her word though, because one classes are done for the day, she heads back home the way she came, flattening the earth as she goes. It's tricky business, especially with the snow she has to bend around (plus the fact that these stupid shoes are making it hard to see!), so feel free to bother her! ]

If any of you guys have cold remedies that actually work, I'm all ears. Y'know, in case I ever need 'em again. 'Cause there's no way I'm ever gonna suck on another frozen frog, thanks.

[ So, Toph had spent the last week and a half confined to her bed. Well, just to her room. But she was in bed for most of it, because she'd come down with a strange cold that nothing could seem to cure. (Looking for a cure had been an adventure in itself. But that's a story for another time.)

That said, she'd been feeling better these last couple of days, and today she was finally able to harass someone into letting her out of the house (instead of just escaping, anyway.) The weather was starting to get cold, so it wouldn't be long before the days got too chilly for her to spend so much time outside. She was going to take advantage of what time she had left. So, after spending the morning at the barracks making sure her bending hadn't suffered from her cold (it hadn't), she wastes some time at the Avatar House's backyard, lazily raising elaborate, miniature structures and landscapes out of the earth.

And when she needs a minute to rest (because she's still only just recovering!), well, she decides that there was nothing wrong with just lying on the ground. By the end of day, she's totally covered in sand and dust and earth. But who's complaining, right? At least she isn't tracking mud into the house. ]

[ What woke Toph up was the sense that something was... off. Not wrong, necessarily. Just - missing? It took her a couple of minutes. But once she realized what it was - that she couldn't really "see" as well as she was used to - she jolted awake, pressing her hands to the floor.

Wood.

Toph scowled. How did she even get in here? Who put her in here? Where was here, anyway?

A breeze wafted in from an open window somewhere, carrying the sound and smell of ink and old paper rustling in the wind. Frowning, Toph got up and felt her way around the room. It kinda felt like a huge one - the ceilings were pretty high, at least - but kind of cramped? Here, a table. Here, some chairs. Everything was made of wood. And over here some shelves that seemed to go on forever...?

She scowled when it finally clicked in her head, and didn't even care when a bunch of paper and a couple of books fell to the floor when she slammed her palms down on the table. ]

Okay. Whose bright idea was it to put the blind girl in a room full of books?

[ Eventually she'll make it out of that corner of the library! Somehow. Someone led her out. It didn't matter. The important thing was that she could dig her feet back into the ground again! Someone, somewhere was going to tell her about the power cap eventually - and that was something she needed to see for herself.

So, after a day of explanations and getting more questions than answers (and her own clothes back!), she finds herself outside the barracks! It's late in the afternoon and a lot of people are heading back to their houses or whatever. Not this earthbender. Who cares if it's getting dark, she needs to figure out how this limit on her powers work. And of course that means tearing up the ground and raising chunk after chunk of rock from the earth.

Don't worry, she'll fix it later, she promises! ]

Action, voice, log or written threads all welcome! Please just include what kind of thread it is in the subject header, as well as some kind of indication of date or time like [Action, July 4th] or [Voice, before Toph leaves for the draft] or something. Thanks!
